The Collings-Knight House runs on volunteer power. Whatever your talents or interests, we have opportunities for you to participate. When you help out at the Collings-Knight house, you help the whole community.

Hospitality volunteers provide or serve refreshments at our programs, welcome and sign in guests, or help clean up after a program.

Housekeeping volunteers don’t mind a little light dusting and vacuuming, polishing silver, or laundering tablecloths once or twice a year.

Teaching: the perfect volunteer for this activity likes history and meeting new people. Whether as a tour guide or school program volunteer, you learn as much as you teach (and sometimes you learn more!) We welcome adults and High School students to join the docent program, and share their love of history with our visitors.

Demonstrator: can you spin, weave, or quilt? Do you know woodcarving, blacksmithing, or beekeeping? Would you like to share your expertise with others? Help us “grow” our programming with your talents.

Gardening: can you tell the weeds from the good plants? Our gardens and borders need a little maintenance – bring your own gloves!

Sewing: if you have a sewing machine and can follow sewing directions, you can make simple curtains for the house or help outfit our guides in 19th century style clothing. We provide the supplies, you provide the talent.

Handyman: we occasionally have minor, non-historic home repairs. Can we call on you when our screws are loose?

Research: What can we still learn about the house and its families? If you have experience doing historical research, you can help uncover more of the Collings-Knight past.
